In a widespread effort to help curb the spread of COVID-19, some of the country’s biggest department stores are closing their brick-and-mortar locations.
In a press release today, Macy’s announced it is closing all of its stores across the country by the end of business on Tuesday, March 17. These include all Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, Bluemercury, Macy’s Backstage and other outlet stores, which will be closed through March 31.
The announcement comes one day after Nordstrom revealed it was temporarily halting operations at more than 350 stores, including its Nordstrom Rack outlets.
The retailers’ online stores will remain open.
Macy’s said employees will be offered compensation and benefits during the shutdown. Nordstrom also announced it is providing workers with pay and benefits during the closure.
