Jack Galmiche

John E. “Jack” Galmiche III, Nine Network’s former president and CEO, who died in April, is one of 14 new honorees that will be inducted into the St. Louis Media Hall of Fame, an initiative of the St. Louis Media History Foundation.

Galmiche was a native St. Louisan and returned to his hometown to take the reins of the Nine Network in November 2006, after serving as chief operating officer of Oregon Public Broadcasting in Portland, Oregon.

Galmiche was recognized for expanding Nine’s programming and championing the public’s engagement with the station. Through his efforts, Nine became a network of multiple media platforms, expanding into digital platforms and community engagement, which is emulated by public media organizations around the country.

Nine became a national model for public media’s engagement initiatives, including American Graduate, the 2008 mortgage crisis, and more. Galmiche spearheaded the creation of the Public Media Commons, a public collaboration and learning space between the Nine Network and St. Louis Public Radio in Grand Center, and the Nine Center for Public Engagement, a first of its kind community engagement center inside the Nine Network.

“It’s an honor for the Nine Network to have Jack in the St. Louis Media Hall of Fame. Jack was a true visionary, always challenging the status quo. He left an indelible imprint on public media and on St. Louis through his inspired leadership,” said Amy Shaw, Nine’s interim president and CEO.

The induction ceremony will be held March 21, at The Last Hotel, 1501 Washington Ave. in St. Louis.
