Brennan’s Joins the Casualty of Central West End Restaurant Closures

0

The Central West End is losing another community staple – for now.

Brennan’s announced that it is closing its doors, but said it plans to reopen at another location in the Central West End. No reason has been given for the move from Maryland Avenue.

In the last three years, Herbie’s moved from Euclid Avenue to Clayton, Coffee Cartel closed a year ago, The Tavern Kitchen & Bar closed last year on New Year’s Eve, West End Grill closed a few months ago, and the list goes on.

It is unclear what is causing the restaurant exodus, but the Central West End has been a perpetual construction zone. Economic experts speculate that in general, the growth of services like DoorDash are killing the industry as restaurants lose the added revenue from items like desserts and drink service when patrons order just what they need from their devices.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, Brennan’s issued the following statement:

“We could go on about love lost and love found, lifelong friendships made, nights we may have stayed a bit too late, visits from Andy Cohen, Dave Chapelle and Julio (if you know, you know), and more. For now, we’ll just say, ‘such good times.’”

It continued with, “Trust us, this isn’t an easy note to write, but here goes. In Spring 2020, after nearly 17 years of business, Brennan’s on Maryland Avenue will close its doors and seek to reopen in the Central West End at another location. We look forward to the challenge of creating something new and original that still feels like something old and familiar.

“To put it simply, word got around about this big change sooner than we’d hoped. We can’t tell you too much about our plans for the future at this time, but we’re getting ahead of the rumors to let you know the situation.

“Thank you to everyone who has ever passed through our doors on Maryland Avenue at one point or another. As we work to finalize our plans for the future, we hope to see you in for a drink soon. We know one thing for sure, the next three months will be a wild ride.”
