Liquidation sales are underway at J.C. Penney while the department store chain prepares to close 136 stores around the country, as part of its bankruptcy proceedings.

So far, two stores in Missouri are slated to close, none of them in the St. Louis region.

“We will continue to operate the majority of our stores and our flagship store, jcp.com, to ensure our valued customers continue to have access to the products and brands they need and want,” a J.C. Penney online announcement said. “A handful of previously announced store closing locations remain on hold pending further review.”

The department store has adjusted its hours of operation to noon to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
