Former Florissant Police Officer Charged With Assault After Second Viral Video

0

Former Florissant police officer Joshua Smith has been charged with first degree assault, armed criminal action and fourth-degree assault just a couple of days after a second viral video emerged showing Smith hitting a man with his unmarked SUV, then getting out of his vehicle and physically assaulting the victim who was laying on the ground.

The charges were announced at a news conference this morning.

The new video, captured by a resident’s surveillance camera, was retrieved after the attorney’s representing the young male conducted an independent investigation and released it to the public. In a news release, The Legal Solution Group said, “The victim suffered serious injuries requiring surgery and remains traumatized by this shocking incident.”

It went on to say, “The video also completely contradicts Joshua Smith’s attorney Scott Rosenblum’s statement of this “simply being an accident.”

Smith was fired last week after the first video showed him driving onto the lawn of a home and hitting the man with his unmarked car. He is expected to turn himself in today.

Charges could be filed against other officers who were at the scene, pending further investigation.
