Members of the Maplewood Police Department – PBA Local 44 – is participating in “No-Shave November” to raise money for the AV Hero Fund, a charity created to honor the memory of a respected community member, Angelo Vayas, 50, who lost his battle against Glioblastoma Multiforme, a rare form of cancer. He died two years after his 2013 diagnosis.

Vayas was an active and philanthropic member of his community, helping those in need and providing assistance to local organizations. The AV Hero Fund was formed so that the legacy he left to the community continues. AV Hero Funds will help provide resources to help those in need due to extenuating circumstances. A portion of the proceeds will also benefit the Caroline Vandemark Fund for Brain and Spine Tumor Research at Hackensack University Medical Center.

Officers will be allowed to grow full beards to raise money for the fund. To make a donation to the fund, visit avherofund.org.
