18-Year-Old Charged in Saint Louis Galleria Fatal Shooting

Update at 3:30 p.m. – Charges have been filed in connection with the shooting death of 21-year-old Jaquan Steed on Wednesday afternoon at Saint Louis Galleria. Jaron Lemmitt, 18, of St. Louis is charged with one count of murder in the second degree, one count of assault in the first degree and two counts of armed criminal action. He is being held on a $1 million, cash-only bond.

A second victim was transported to an area hospital. He is expected to recover.

St. Louis County Police held a news conference asking for the public’s help to identify a person of interest captured on surveillance video, who they believe is involved in the double shooting at Saint Louis Galleria.

One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, the second victim was transported to an area hospital and is expected to recover. Both victims are adults in their early 20s.

Police said the call came in just after 12:30 p.m. as an active shooter situation. Further investigation revealed that the shooting began during an altercation between two groups of people. It is unclear whether they knew each other.

A significant number of police officers remain on the scene, clearing stores and releasing mall employees from safety areas.
