St. Louis campaign, “We Are The Change,” will host a nonpartisan voter engagement kickoff to highlight various organizations working to empower voters ahead of 2020, and illustrate the many ways that community members can confront voter suppression and exercise their right to vote.
The community forum will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 18, at Union Avenue Christian Church in St. Louis.
Local leaders, including Missouri Secretary of State candidate Yinka Faleti, St. Louis County councilwoman Rita Days, and St. Louis County prosecutor Wesley Bell are scheduled to attend and give remarks on the importance of voting.
The event will also include a screening of the documentary, “Suppressed: The Fight to Vote,” which highlights personal stories of disenfranchisement in Georgia’s 2018 election, where Stacey Abrams lost her bid to become the nation’s first black woman governor.
The documentary is produced by Brave New Films, a nonprofit initiative that produces content to highlight injustice and inequality.
