St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson Lifts Curfew

0

St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson announced on Monday that the citywide curfew is lifted, effective immediately.

The news comes a day after thousands gathered in downtown St. Louis for an afternoon and evening of peaceful protests.

Krewson signed an executive order early last week for a citywide nighttime curfew in response to violence and looting following the death of George Floyd.

“I thank all the residents and businesses that chose to respect the curfew these past several nights,” Krewson said. “As a city and as a country, we are listening and changing through nonviolent protests and self-expression as we navigate these challenging times.”

Retired St. Louis police captain, David Dorn, 77, was shot and killed at Lee’s Pawn and Jewelry during the unrest. Police have filed first-degree murder charges against 24-year-old Stephan Cannon for Dorn’s death.
