Man Accused of Murdering Attorney Randy Gori Pleads Not Guilty

Timothy Michael Banowetz, 28, pleaded not guilty Thursday, to all charges related to the Jan. 4 murder of prominent attorney Randy Gori, 47, of Edwardsville, Illinois.

Banowetz, whose last known address was in Wentzville, Missouri, was indicted by a Madison County grand jury, charged with multiple counts of murder, armed robbery and aggravated unlawful restraint.

Police responded to a 911 call from the residence the night of the murder. There, they discovered Gori’s body with stab wounds. Authorities have said there were two minors who were tied up in the home. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office subsequently activated the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis investigation. The suspect was found the next day, hiding in the woods near the victim’s home on Mooney Creek Road with Gori’s 2020 Rolls Royce SUV.

Gori, a managing partner at The Gori Law Firm, was also a well-known businessman, philanthropist and car collector.
